Obama Leads In Three Key StatesBy Cliff Montgomery – Oct.1st, 2008Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama (D-IL) has surged ahead of Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain (R-AZ) in three critical, heavily-populated states a mere five weeks before November’s general election, reveal presidential polls released today. The recent surveys show that Sen. Obama is leading Sen. McCain in Pennsylvania by 15 points (54% to 39%), in Ohio by 8 points (50% to 42%) and in Florida by 8 points (51% to 43%).That bodes well for the Illinois senator. Since 1960, every nominee that has won at least two of these critical states has won the presidency.Monday’s shocking stock market plunge and the results of the first presidential debate were the apparent reasons for the Illinois senator’s recent rise in the polls. Obama’s support leapt to at least 50 percent in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, according to Quinnipiac University surveys conducted over the weekend.Taken together, the three vote-rich states provide 68 of the necessary 270 electoral votes for a nominee to win on Election Day, November 4th.Quinnipiac pollsters credit Obama’s surge to a number of factors, such as voters’ positive view of his performance in the first presidential debate, a growing worry about the readiness of Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin and increased confidence in Sen. Obama’s ability to deal with the growing economic meltdown. The new polls are yet another bit of bad news for an increasingly troubled McCain campaign. The poll results have been released just before the first vice presidential debate between Palin and Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee Joe Biden. And the Wall Street mess is almost sure to put McCain’s bid for the presidency in yet further trouble, since voters will be even less likely to want a continuation of George W. Bush’s economic policies.Like what you’re reading so far? Then why not order a full year (52 issues) of thee-newsletter for only $15?
