Obama Whipping Mccain In Two New Polls

Presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama (D-IL) now enjoys a double-digit lead over presumptive GOP nominee John McCain (R-AZ). Obama Whipping McCain In Two New PollsBy Cliff Montgomery – June 25th, 2008Presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama (D-IL) now enjoys a 15-point lead over presumptive Republican nominee John McCain (R-AZ) in this year’s presidential race, according to two recent polls. And though Election Day in November is still more than four months away, the majority of  political trends–unfavorable views of both George W. Bush and the GOP, worries about the current direction of this country and the economy, and voter enthusiasm–seem to be breaking Obama’s way.A Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll released yesterday shows Obama “winning support from once skeptical women and Democrats,” and now trouncing “McCain 48 percent to 33 percent in a four-way race” between Senators Obama and McCain, and Independent candidates Ralph Nader and Bob Barr, states a related article printed by Bloomberg media outlets . Nader and Barr receive a total of 7 percent; the remainder is undecided.A Newsweek poll published on June 20th also showed Obama far ahead of McCain, 51 percent to 36 percent. No one seems certain on why the Illinois senator suddenly is so far ahead in the presidential race; a Reuters/Zogby tally released just last Wednesday said Obama had a mere 5-point lead. Perhaps the Democrat is enjoying a bounce thanks to his recent win over Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) for the party nomination. We at The Spark feel the sudden increase in “support from once skeptical women and Democrats” probably has more to do with Sen. Clinton’s own growing support in recent weeks for Obama’s candidacy . It was reasonable to suspect that her core groups would gravitate to Obama once Clinton began backing the Illinois senator’s run for the White House.Regardless, Sen. Obama’s increase in the polls–as well as strong poll numbers for left-leaning solutions in such areas as the economy, health-care and tax plans–give Democrats a great  advantage this election year, states Los Angeles Times Polling Director Susan Pinkus.”The Obama voters are much more energized and motivated to come out to vote than the McCain voters; McCain is still struggling to win over some of his core groups,” she told Bloomberg.com yesterday.”The good news for Obama is also that he seems to be doing better on the issue that is uppermost in voters’ minds, and that is the economy,” Pinkus added.Like what you’re reading so far?
