John McCain is a maverick.Bullsh**, sheer steaming bullsh**. McCain voted with George W. Bush 95% of the time through 2007 and a full 100 percent of the time in 2008, according to Congressional Quarterly‘s Presidential Support Studies, which determines how often a lawmaker’s vote matches the position of the person in the White House.A person who agrees with everything you do and say 95-100% of the time could only be considered a “maverick” by the current GOP leadership, which thinks that anything less than 100% compliance at all times is proof of a ‘strong independent streak’.2.) Sarah Palin has more presidential experience than either Obama or Biden.Here’s how this bullsh** fallacy is constructed: First as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska–a small town of 6,500–then as governor of Alaska for only 20 months, Palin has raked up more executive experience than Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (D-IL) and running mate Joe Biden (D-DE) put together.Of course, she also has far more executive experience than John McCain, though that fact isn’t discussed as much by the Republican leadership. So why didn’t Republicans call for Palin to lead their ticket over the “dangerously inexperienced” U.S. senator, John McCain? They would have, if they really believed their rhetoric.Arguing that “executive experience” is the sole issue of presidential fitness–without worrying whether that constitutes any actual experience in either national or international affairs–is as silly as claiming that a dentist can conduct brain surgery because all that matters is “doctoral experience”, and not the fact that our doctor knows nothing about brain operations.To give a concrete example: George W. Bush was governor of Texas for just over 6 years. He had even more “executive experience” than Palin, but also suffered from a lack of national and international experience.
