By Cliff Montgomery – Aug. 19th. 2016On Aug. 16th, the American Spark revealed the top individual contributors to the Clinton presidential campaign today, we look at Donald Trump’s leading donors.Trump so far has decided to largely self-fund his presidential campaign. According to Federal Election Commission information released on July 21st, 2016 and obtained via the Center for Responsive Politics, Trump’s campaign committee war chest holds almost $89 million – and a whopping 56% of those funds come from his own pocket.
That’s not too bad for a guy who has filed for bankruptcy six times.
But over $12.3 million of Trump’s campaign funds have quietly come from large individual donations … and the wealthy donors include those from among the best-known corporate, financial and government entities.
Such a truth reveals the ugly workings of America’s capitalist-based election process, that openly allows the country’s most wealthy to “contribute” massive sums of money to political campaigns … it’s a charade that journalist Greg Palast has insightfully called “the best democracy money can buy.”
So who is buying Donald Trump? Below, the Spark shows the total contributions made by each large donor (i.e., entities contributing at least $10,000) to Trump’s 2016 presidential run. This tally includes donations to his campaign committee, as well as to any pro-Trump Political Action Committees (PACs).
It also must be noted that the money from these entities “came from the organizations’ PACs their individual members, employees or owners and those individuals’ immediate families,” states the Center for Responsive Politics (CPR).
“At the federal level, the organizations themselves did not donate, as they are prohibited by law from doing so,” CPR added.
