Trump Losing Key Supporters, Poll Finds

By Cliff Montgomery – July 31st, 2025

It appears as if Donald Trump is beginning to lose his core demographic groups, according to Newsweek and a recent poll conducted between July 25th-July 28th by leading data analytics group YouGov and The Economist magazine.

“White voters have long been a crucial pillar of Trump’s political base,” Newsweek declared today, “consistently providing him with strong support throughout his campaigns and first presidency.”

From the beginning of Trump’s political career in 2015, a clear majority of Caucasian (White) voters have backed the billionaire. The voting block is filled by those who never obtained a college degree. It almost seems that his extremist stances on such issues as national identity and immigration are tailor-made to tap into their fears. A majority (56 percent) voted for Donald Trump in 2024.

“But polls now suggest Trump is losing support from some of his most reliable supporters,” Newsweek stated today.

“The decline comes amid growing pessimism about the direction of the country,” continued Newsweek.

“Just 39 percent of white voters said the U.S. is ‘getting better,’ ” stated Newsweek, clearly quoting the YouGov/ Economist poll. The news source added that those voter numbers were “down 2 points from June.”Gov/

A full “53 percent believe things are getting worse,” added Newsweek.

Another big block that – until recently – had often given strong support to Trump’s second presidency had been male voters, according to that same YouGov/ Economist poll. For most of his second term, men have given Trump a general approval. He fell into the negative for much of June, briefly regained a positive approval on July 5th, then fell and has remained in the negative numbers for most of July. Currently, U.S. men give Trump an overall disapproval rating of – 8 points.

By contrast, women have never given Trump a positive approval rating. According to the YouGov/Economist poll, women currently give Trump an abysmal -22 percent disapproval rating.

Trump’s handling of major issues are also pretty unpopular with voters. The only issue on which Trump escaped without a disapproval rating is his performance on crime – voters rate him an unenviable 0%. Former apparent strengths have become liabilities: Voters now disapprove of his actions on Immigration (-6 percent), Jobs and the Economy (-11 percent), and Inflation and prices (-25 percent).

And the Jeffrey Epstein connection is shredding his remaining support.

Epstein was convicted of having solicited prostitution with a minor. Trump had been good friends with Epstein. While that alone is not a crime, there is a strong, lingering wonder about what Trump did know, when he knew it and what – if anything – he participated in with Epstein. Trump himself is a convicted felon, since a 2023 conviction found Trump guilty of sexually abusing and later defaming journalist E. Jean Carroll.

According to the recent YouGov/Economist poll, a full 61 percent of Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling the current investigations into Epstein.

A huge number of Americans – 82 percent – believe that the government should release all the info it can on this subject, for clarity. Most damning of all, a full 46 percent of Americans believe Trump was involved in these alleged crimes.

The numbers aren’t good. And, deep down, we all suspect it is only going to get worse.
