Political Dirty Tricks Already Tainting ElectionBy Cliff Montgomery – Nov. 2nd, 2008Residents of Broward County, FL, have been the victims of deceptive robocalls which wrongly tell them that voters may cast their ballots by phone this Election Day, states an article published this Friday by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.Though the article didn’t supply many details from the study, it did verify that the person on the robocall falsely identified herself as Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes.Ms. Snipes’ public service director told the Sun-Sentinel that the elections supervisor never made such a statement about voting by phone, and further informed the paper that the robocall message is a flat-out lie.The lying robocall is one of several dirty tricks now being employed across America, shortly  before a possible record number of voters go to the polls this Nov. 4th, Election Day.Another dirty trick has been uncovered around Hampton Roads, Virginia. There an unknown group is giving out official-looking flyers which falsely tell residents that the Virginia State Board of Elections has scheduled Republicans to vote this November 4th, and that Democrats will vote the next day, on the 5th.There is no such schedule change. All U.S. voters will cast their vote by Nov. 4th this year, Election Day.Democratic congressmen John Conyers of Michigan, Bobby Scott of Virginia and Jerry Nadler of New York have asked the Department of Justice to investigate the dirty tricks in Virginia. They also have asked that the DOJ level criminal charges against the flyer’s creators.The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review states that area residents have received robocalls also wrongly telling them that Democrats will vote after Election Day.This ugly GOP tactic has been used before in Pittsburgh.
