Saying that Ayers is still a dangerous terrorist today is as ridiculous as saying that John McCain’s wife, Cindy, is still a pill-popping drug addict. Is McCain A Pal Of Drug Addicts?By Cliff Montgomery – Oct. 6th, 2008With GOP hopes for another four years in the White House sinking like a stone, Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin is being employed by the McCain camp to smear Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama (D-IL) through any lie necessary. The most recent lie is really the resurrection of an old smear proven false almost a year ago. As we’re sure most readers have already heard, Palin is accusing the Illinois senator of being a “pal” of William Ayers, a former member of the 1960s radical group Weather Underground. But such a charge is “exaggerated at best if not outright false,” according to The Associated Press (AP).”No evidence shows they were ‘pals’ or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career,” stated AP. Obama “was a child when the Weathermen were planting bombs, [and] has denounced Ayers’ radical views and actions,” added the wire service. In fact, Ayers long ago left such dangerous radicalism behind.Ayers is now a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He and Obama served together on the Woods Fund board of directors; the Chicago-based charity develops community groups that aid the poor. He’s long since ceased being the “terrorist” Palin makes him out to be.Saying that Ayers is still a dangerous terrorist today is as ridiculous as saying that John McCain’s wife, Cindy, is still a pill-popping drug addict.Cindy McCain “became addicted to Vicodin and Percocet in early 1989 after rupturing two disks and having back surgery,” and only “stopped taking the painkillers in 1992 after her parents confronted her,” according to a September Washington Post article. So does this fact make John McCain a “pal” of drug addicts?Voters should treat the changed life of Professor Ayers with the same sense of dignity they’ve rightly shown to Cindy McCain, who clearly also has left one of her worst periods behind her. And they should treat this current tripe from Palin as the empty-headed foolishness it is.Like what you’re reading so far? Then why not order a full year (52 issues) of thee-newsletter for only $15?
